Five
1) I learnt that the road is a 'road story' which is an American style of story in which the characters embark on a journey with no real aim or destination, it is not a quest just a journey down a road to a certain place or no place at all.
2) I learnt that the road is a 'post modern novel' meaning it is not written in the conventional way, the road features no speech marks and little punctuation, the sentences are short, there are no chapters and the whole thing is just one long flow of not a lot.
3) I learnt that the road is a 'post apocalyptic novel' meaning it happens after (post) the end of the world (apocalypse) where civilisation is in tatters and only a minute population remains.
4) I learnt that the road features 'deathscapes' this is in other words a dead landscape or world of death, this is typical of post apocalyptic novels.
5) I learnt that McCarthy includes 'low culture refernces' in the form of scenes similar to trashy American horror movies such as 'Dawn of the dead' and 'Last house on the left'.
