Voice and Point of View

Page 8
Omniscient point of view in which the reader is adressed 'Look around you' this is a moment in which the reader isn't distanced from the characters and feels included.
There is no signal of the end of narrrative and the cross to thoughts of a character. The narrator could be one of the characters speaking in the future.
This section appears to be from the mans point of view as the boy had no experience of 'those first years' although because of the unattributed dialogue and thoughts however, when reading I realised it is the narrator whoever the narrator may be. The narrator adresses the reader, we feel included and are made to imagine someone turning out the light on the world.
There are only a few sections in the book that are like this section with unattributed dialogue and thoughts, The beginning and end are similar. There is no reference to 'the man', 'he' or 'they'.
who is the narrator?
Perhaps the boy when he is younger telling his story? The man could have told him about the 'first years' however the narrator could be completely separate or a narrator telling the thoughts of the man.
